Wellington Webstock Escher

February 10th, 2013, 8pm

It was 19°C with few clouds.

I had the Escher print of the hand and the pencil drawing itself. Escher, Bowie and film The Labyrinth will always be intertwined.

If you look through each of the main arches, there is another arch in the distance. Craig Mod having spent time in Japan, and having been to Japan, has got me thinkging about art and geometry. There is a very the foreground, mid and background in most Japanese works I’ve seen.

While there is no persistant observer in the distance - another feature of Japanese art- I am looking for the human element in this to bring back from the abstract. If only there’d been a passenger in the truck looking back this way.

I’ve never been that much of a fan of Bowie’s music, apart from the epic Major Tom. For me his aesthetic, style and presence in The Labyrinth made more of an impression.
