It's the annual cow parade, according to my Swiss wife.

September 26th, 2013, 5pm

It was 18°C with few clouds. The breeze was light.

Every year, the farmers bring the cows down from the mountains for winter. These were the last stragglers. We thought we’d missed them.

The tradition of the cow parade led to the hats and to the tourists in every hillside village in Switzerland. The parade began early, high in the hills. We heard the bells when we woke up, and they grew louder during breakfast.

Cassie, Craig, Amal and Christine said thanks.
