I'm writing this in a cafe in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, the kind of place where one wouldn't be surprised to encounter the cast of TOWIE.

July 22nd, 2013, 2pm

It was 28°C with clouds and visibility OK. There was moderate breeze.

The photo, however, is the view from my room at the Inglewood guest house on the Isle of Man, where I wish I were sitting.

The island is such an idyllic place, small enough to drive across in under 30 minutes, or around in just a few hours. Mountains, seaside towns, castles, fields, a fully-operational Victorian steam railway, horse trams, and views galore — this island has enough variety to keep one’s senses occupied for a good while.

Anne, Steve, Gabrielle and Philippe said thanks.
