The Coke Story

November 28th, 2003, 1pm

This is Muthamma, an indigenous farmer in Plachimida whom I met in 2003 when I visited this place to do a story on Coco Cola plant which was polluting the area. You can find those stories on FSRN. Now this plant dont exist anymore as world wide protest forced the Coke authorities to wind it up. This lady took me to her well and asked me to taste the water and I did it innocently thinking it will be the purest form of water. To my surprise, I found it to be no less than tasting acid. I went around other wells and all wells were full but with non-edible water. I would have loved to visit this place again sometime late this year to see if the situation has improved. I dont know if I can meet this lady again.
