Evening run.

March 25th, 2014, 6pm

It was 8°C with few clouds. The breeze was light.

This photograph almost didn’t happen. In fact, for about half an hour, I was certain that it hadn’t.

I’d gotten home from work, and was feeling pretty energetic after the short bike ride, so I decided to strike while the iron was hot and head out into the cool evening air for a run.

I cranked Weezer, started Strava, and headed out, following my nose on a vaguely circular route that took me round Lodge Lake.

I was making good progress and was feeling pretty pleased with myself for making the effort. Even better, the sky looked fantastic. I’d passed a few ‘scenes’ that I’d normally have stopped to take a photograph of were I not running. But when I got to the above location, I just had to. Also I needed to stop for a breather…

I lifted my phone to frame the shot, click, then black.

Weezer stopped.

Swirly icon.

Phone shutting down. God damnit.

Of course my phone was dead: I was going for a run at the end of a busy day, and using a GPS app to log my run while listening to music. It’s easy to take these things for granted until they stop working!

I continued my run home in silence, knowing that Strava had stopped tracking my efforts along with everything else, and the photograph had been a wasted endeavour anyway.

So I was very pleased when I got home to find that the photograph had indeed taken and saved. Yay technology!

I read lots of stuff about old stuff and new stuff. I love diaries. I take photographs sometimes, and I like to ride my bicycle.
