Seed catalogues, the playboy magazine of the mature years

April 20th, 2016, 9am

I have a very difficult garden next to apartment on Park Point, this spit of sand between Lake Superior and the bay where I live. A huge tree shades it and roots choke out fancy plants.

This year I’m sowing a big plot of pansy - shade tolerant - in “The Weed Garden”. They grow on my window sill. I germinated the seeds in the dark refrigerator between two moist sheets of paper towel. After 10 days I planted the germinated seeds.

I’ve started snapdragons also - color that will grow in partial shade.

Finally I bought a few seeds of every type of nasturtium I could find on the market - only 5.

Although planting lies 6 weeks in the future I must make a plan for the veggies I want to grow here this summer in my rooftop garden atop the County Garage. For sure I’ll plant sugar snap peas, greens, tomatoes and …

Ah! Seed catalogs are the Playboy Magazine of old age especially since Mr Heffner put clothes back on his models.
