Changing My Stripes

May 31st, 2014, 8am

The actual title of this photo is, “Zebra Crossing”. It was taken during a recent trip to Namibia and was shot in Etosha National park. In my mind, I had really wanted to get a high-key shot of a zebra crossing the road. This will never happen, I told myself, how often will I get to see a zebra, let alone one in this situation.

The answer is, several times a day. They’re everywhere! There was one day we had to stop for about 15 mins as a line of plain’s zebras about a mile long wandered through the savanna and across the road.

The title of this post is, “Changing My Stripes”. This was a feeble attempt to link the zebra photo to my next piece of news.

After almost 10 years of work as a front-end developer for a financial company, as of last week, I’ve found myself suddenly without a job. The news hasn’t quite sunk in yet, but I’m liking the free time I currently have.

I’m going to try and start freelancing in photography and web development, while also teaching self-defence on the side. I’ve never been self-employed or freelanced before, so any tips and recommendations would be fantastic!

If you’re looking to hire a photographer for something, or just fancy learning off me, let me know and I’ll be happy to help! For those of you in London, I might do photowalks and 1-on-1 tutorials. If that doesn’t float your boat, I’ll teach you how to kick ass.

I guess it’s not so much changing my stripes, but more having the same stripes and making them my own. I won’t change the title, though, as this moment of realisation makes a nice end to the post…
