Straight up

September 26th, 2013, 6pm

It was 22.8°C with few clouds. The breeze was gentle.

Fans of the architect Edward Durell Stone might guess this edifice is one of his. Fans of Alfred Easton Poor (we know you’re out there!) will certainly know it’s the Library of Congress’s Madison building.

To be fair, the EDS aficionados shouldn’t be faulted. A taxi driver once told me the Madison is, “the box the Kennedy Center came in.”

It’s across the street from the office buildings of the House of Representatives. I.e., a short walk from decisions impacting the world’s economies.

I snapped this photo as the U.S. federal government shutdown loomed.

Later I was furloughed.

Later the furlough ended and I returned to work.

Flags are always changing. Depending on the wind they might be nearly unrecognizable. And of course your perspective is influenced by where you stand.

Lorraine, Christine, Cassie and David Wade said thanks.
