If you want to buy souvenirs for your friends and yourself, don’t wait until you get to the airport - unless it’s food that you don’t want to carry in your suitcase - because they are much more expensive there. For souvenirs go to Belváros [Inner Town] and on pedestrian Váci utca and particularly on the stretch below Szabadsajtó út. You will find dozens of souvenir shops there. The cheapest I found with a big variety and a friendly shop owner was that on Váci utca 56-58 called ‘Tekla Folklor Shop’ (open 9-21).
If you want to buy sausages and the like, continue down Váci utca until Vámház krt where you will run into ‘Nagycsarnok’, one of the biggest food markets.
