I asked my mother this question while at a large family dinner to celebrate the birth of my cousin’s baby boy.
Red is an especially significant colour in Chinese culture. It’s often used to symbolize luck, happiness, and good fortune. I’m not entirely sure if this is related, but it reminds me of something the Vancouver artist/writer Douglas Coupland once said, “everything beautiful is true.” Somehow, naively beautiful.
