Living the high life!

July 1st, 2016, 3pm

One of the wonderful blessings of modern digital life is the ability to take huge numbers of photos without worrying about processing and printing costs. Having just got back from a two-week holiday in South Devon - a most beautiful part of the UK - I have just done the sums and worked out that I took 1,044 photographs!

So that gives me a few to share on Hi, as my way over the coming weeks of saying farewell to this great site that I’ve enjoyed being part of since September 2013.

This picture shows one of only two surviving Pullman Observation Cars, which is used on the heritage line from Paignton to Kingswear, run by the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company (see http://www.dartmouthrailriver.co.uk/). We did the “Round Robin” trip - a cruise up the River Dart from Dartmouth to Totnes, a bus from Totnes to Paignton, the steam train from Paignton to Kingswear, and finally the ferry from Kingswear back to Dartmouth - and I would recommend this to anyone who is fortunate enough to get to visit this area. We chose to pay a little bit extra to ride in the Pullman Observation Car for the train ride - travelling First Class - and what amazing views! The line goes through some stunningly beautiful countryside, so it’s well worth the extra £2 a head. We certainly felt that we were living the high life, even if for just for 30 minutes!
