Back to work. Berlin remains hot.

July 24th, 2013, 5pm

It was 29°C with clouds and visibility OK. The breeze was light.

In Berlin, my interest in weather and its whims has deepened. I’m thinking about it a lot. The city landscape lays flat, with little terrain in the horizon to gaze at — no mountains, no sea. In cities I’ve lived in before the surrounding landscape has been there as a scenery onto which your gaze and thoughts can wander. Berlin stretches vast, but on the streets between the house walls, it still feels small. The sky however is always there, acting as a replacement for landscape. And weather, especially when it’s dramatic, is something to gaze at. It reminds you that we’re still living on a planet where everything is not controlled or figured out. The weather app on my phone tells me there’s a thunderstorm coming in today. I’ll be watching.
