Look Up to Me, I Am Whitehall

January 31st, 2015, 3pm

Touch my marble, hear my music. I was born from gold and ivory. I wish for your love, your marvel. Admire me because you cannot stay, because you cannot breathe me in everyday. Novelty is my best friend.

Stand on my porch, I will witness your wedding vows. Rest in my courtyard, I will show you all that is green. I made a spoon with seashells once, then they built two rooms just for tea. Sleep in yellow beds, eat in crimson chairs. Touch everything, then look up to me. I am Whitehall, and you cannot touch me.

Henry Flagler built Whitehall as a wedding present for his wife, Mary Lily Kenan Flagler. With riches from Standard Oil, Flagler filled Whitehall with unparalleled magnificence from the gilded age.
