I’ve been looking for a good place to write. I debate between two incompatible preferences and, settling on neither, end up not writing.

Option 1: A hosted service

Pros = better UI for writing, no management of hosting or application upgrades

Cons = can content be exported? where does it live? do I own my writing?

Option 2: A self-hosted application

Pros = total control of content, customization options

Cons = worse UI for writing

I’ve looked at and tried wordpress, ghost, medium, tumblr and many others.
