This winter has been relentless. Snow on the ground since December, temps haven’t been above freezing in a month.
When the polar vortex first descended, people stayed indoors. Restaurants and downtown venues were empty. But the most amazing thing has happened in the last week or two. Everyone has collectively remembered that we do have winter coats and hats and mittens - and that we can leave our homes, even when it’s cold and snowy. The cafes are bustling again, the restaurants and bars are full of life. The population has risen in defiance of this bitter season’s concerted effort to put us all in stasis.
It’s a quiet snow this morning, big flakes, lots of space between them. Perfect for a snow globe, perfect for a Sunday. Perfect for getting outside in winter coats and hats and mittens.
We sit, we drink coffee too late, and we listen to the rain. The pitter patter on her tin roof is in tempo with the coffee sizzling on the burner.
The sirens came abruptly. It was one in the morning and the window by our bed was still open.
It's in the middle of April and it snowed here in Michigan... We're in an ice age, aren't we?
The last jar of summer.
The ephemerality of the internet can be really disappointing some times: http://www.videogum.com/610541/use-your-duck-voice/
I drove him to school today.
Thank you Amy!
These lonely night walks through a campus I may not see again.
First post to see what it is like. Twenty words is not a lot of words. Italics is now fashionable.
