My first trip out of province was approximately a year ago. My friend HG, and myself, took a trip to Invermere BC. This trip led me to my first flight, my first sights in a big city, and my first steps up a mountain. An incredible trip. The thing I hated about this trip was how ruined I was by the end of it. I no longer saw my city with the rose coloured glasses I once had. I now saw all the things that I didn’t like about it, and dreamt of the things I’d seen elsewhere and preferred. This contempt ate me alive for months; a longing to return to mountain air, and Calgary tram rides. I didn’t have to travel very far to see the cultural differences spread over the country I call home.
Spring, my favourite time of year, carries with it a wanderlust bug, and my birthday. Conveniently, my birthday is quite close to the Victoria Day long weekend. This year, my birthday is bringing me one step closer to the trip my friends and I have planned. I will, once again, be returning to Calgary, Jasper, Banff, and Invermere. I’m ecstatic.
