I was all turned around as I was getting ready because we had just gotten back from camping in Big Sur that weekend and my room was covered in the parts and pieces from the trip. I noticed I was missing my purse a that moment too, which put a real damper on the morning. I hate misplacing things. It could have been worse, because I luckily had my wallet, phone, and keys still in my backpack, but it’s just not having this thing that I once had and took having for granted.
I left it drying on a rock at our campsite. It had gotten wet somehow and I was trying to dry it in the sun. I remember telling James, “Don’t let me forget this,” which in retrospect almost seems to foretell that I would forget it anyways.
