Two Aboriginal Landscapes

August 15th, 2013, 10am

This morning I had a cup of coffee (long black) sitting at this table between two aboriginal landscapes: the painting on the wall and the landscape seen through the window. These resource-rich environments include wetlands, estuaries, lakes and open woodlands close to the shore populated for perhaps 50,000 years by peoples such as the Koori. Now my beautiful new fitness gym is housed here in a five story hotel. I can park my car in an underground garage. I can swim in a pool instead of the ocean. I can walk on treadmills instead of among the wildflowers. And I can enjoy my long black. Is all this as problematic as I imagine it to be.
