On the first Thursday of every month, the Autodesk gallery holds an event called “Design Night”, a night of food and drinks and exploring new technology coming from the halls of Autodesk and more. I’ve gone to two of these nights thanks to a good friend of mine who is a programmer and web designer and all around nerd like myself. I have a blast, because not only are some pieces of the gallery interactive and hands-on, each night has a different theme, and really, who can turn down an open bar and appetizing snack food? (Thank you, City Smoke House.)

Last month’s theme was centered around space and how we’ve seen it viewed in media. Unfortunately, we missed the presentation for that night due to the simple fact that parking is nearly impossible to find in the city and Market Street can often be intimidating to those who don’t often venture into San Francisco.

This month, the theme was Makers. A presentation by Quirky was given, a site that, by the end of it, I understood as the inventor’s version of Kickstarter. It was great, and were I still a fiend for web and graphic design like I was in high school, it would have been even better. As it is, my focus is currently Massage Therapy, but that hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the excitement that comes with new technology and new ideas. Sometimes, I still dabble in the realm of html and css, but I’m not as adept as I once was, and these days I can only watch in awe of those who dedicate their lives to advancing the world of creativity.
