Headed just a little farther west, into mountains and sky so big your smallness, in its clarity, ceases to matter.

It was 13°C with scattered clouds. There was moderate breeze.

It’s the opposite of those photos everyone was so excited about a few weeks ago. Where that Swiss photographer dropped Manhattan into the Grand Canyon and lined up all the perspective points just so. It’s about an exchange of extremes, empty and dense, he said.

It also makes the Chrysler and Metlife buildings appear as if they could compete with a gash in the earth more than a mile deep.

Our cumulative energies (the incredible density of New York City!) were mistaken for an emptiness so vast and old we still can’t name its age.
