A few years ago, I saw photos of this place and found it hard to believe that it actually existed. Finally, in 2012, I managed to get here on one of my solo photography trips around South East Asia.
I stayed in the grounds of this temple for a couple of days and even paid extra for special sunrise and sunset access. This photo was during one of the sunrise sessions.
Borobudur is found in central Java in Indonesia and is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist Temple. It is actually the largest Buddhist temple in the world. These stone bells (or stupas) adorn the top levels of the monument and each contains a Buddha statue in varying poses.
If you ever get a chance to go to Indonesia, forget about sunbathing in Bali and head to this place near Jogjakarta.
