This is a location that I’ve seen many times and been wanting to go to for years. This particular scene has always captured my attention and I just had to photograph it for myself.

This is the amazing town of Kolmanskop in the Namib desert in southern Namibia. It was a successful diamond mining town from 1908 right up until 1954. It not only had the first x-ray-station in the southern hemisphere, but also the first tram in Africa. When the diamond supply eventually ran out, the Germans abandoned it and the sands moved in to reclaim the land.

The whole town is run-down and nearly every house is filled or partially-filled with the desert sands. There a quite a few warnings of dangerous snakes around, but sadly/luckily I didn’t run into any.
