I’ve just taken up the helm as Executive Director of ReCAP, the Research Collections and Preservation Consortium, a partnership between Columbia, Princeton, and The New York Public Library. We keep 10.5 million items (including books, archival containers, film ,and other media) in a secure, climate-controlled facility (pictured, in very small part). Daily electronic and physical deliveries of the materials go out to the partner libraries, and new materials are always being added. We have space for about 16-18 million items built, and room for up to 40 million over time, a very long time, in this case.
