Found myself awake at 5am without having slept, so I greeted the sun.

May 5th, 2014, 5am

Because it’s the Golden Week holiday, I’ve had about ten days off work. (Boss was overseas for business, so no work could happen.) When I’m on holiday though, my sleep schedule shifts. I find myself waking up at noon or later, and not going to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning.

This particular day, it was suddenly 4:30am, and I wasn’t really sleepy at all. Tried to decide whether to go to bed because, well, it’s WELL bedtime, or stay up. While I tried to decide, the sun actually started to rise, which decided it for me.

I’ve lived about a kilometre from the beach for the past eight months, but I rarely go. I also enjoy photography but I haven’t really been partaking much these past months. So, why not combine these two?

As it was early morning, the fishing port was full of people heading out for their morning work. “Good morning!” I called to one fellow heading to his boat.

He looked a little confused and waved.

“Maybe this is a stupid question, but what sort of fish might you catch today?”

“Squid and sea bream, mostly. But there’s lots of fish in the sea!”

“I see! Thank you!”

He waved and continued on his way.

I hung around and took some more photos. A couple of Mt. Fuji in the morning, something else I’ve not done (though Fuji at sunset and Fuji at mid-day I’ve done).

On my way home, I decided to pop into a convenience store for breakfast. I was up anyway, why not partake? Now, I don’t drink coffee, but the smell of the fresh-brewed coffee in the 7-11 I stopped at was absolutely divine. I’d never drink it, but the smell was just lovely, and totally matched my early morning excursion.

I ended up staying awake for 42 hours before I finally slept. Eleven hours of uninterrupted blissful rest.
