It’s easy to become numb - set on autopilot - on common walks along familiar routes. Your mind is ticking over things just passed or yet to do. But you get the odd moment when appreciation of where you are - the setting, time and season - makes you pause. The short days of Winter (thankfully) bring many of those moments. Since the light can be stunning, I make a point of carrying a small camera with me constantly. The immediacy of the camera on my iPhone doesn’t hack it: I like to make a deliberate few moments to pause, look, frame and expose. The softness of the approaching long shadows are worthy of a break.
