Per Sempre (for always)

February 15th, 2014, 5am

It was 21°C with few clouds. The breeze was gentle.

I’ve been reflecting on how the challenges of the last few years — for me and for all of us, really — seemed to have overshadowed what used to be my defining characteristic: faith that the Universe is unfolding the way it should.   Then, late last night, I stumbled upon something I’d written years ago, during another bleak period, and these words came back at me like the crest of a wave, reminding me that this Universe is, in fact, exactly the way it should be.

Endings are far too often cold and gray, filled with dark emotions and the clouds of infinite foreboding. But hidden deep within endings you also rediscover your purpose. If you protect your inner light you can find comfort in it all, and that resolve holds you like a blanket.

It warms you like the stars.

As a conservator, a guardian, a steward, I suppose I’ve always been a little apprehensive about endings. There was always a sadness to them, a certain acknowledgment that all good things must come to an end. What a blind view that was because good things, you see…they endure.

They are timeless.

Endings have come for specific reasons, and I understand now that all of them have been for the better. Today is another beginning, another opportunity to actualize the world.

Here’s to new beginnings. Every single one of them.
