longing for  those July nights

July 16th, 2015, 6pm

Although I’m a winter baby, I’ve never felt a love for the cold weather. Perhaps it’s because I’m prone to runny noses and hacking coughs that disturb my sleep ..or maybe that I’m also a klutz and slide in mushy snow more often then I don’t ..whatever the reasons, winter has never been something I enjoy. But lately my summer withdrawals have been getting worse. This past summer we housed family we had never met before with us, including cousins that accompanied my sister and I like siblings we never knew we had. As a recluse to family, and never one for gatherings, I had had a hard time getting comfortable to the idea of so much family, but I acquiesced soon enough. Fortunately, I did not regret agreeing to this new change. One of my favorite nights was in July, when we had driven to the 4th of July fireworks display in our tiny town and lay down on a great big towel in the grass. Laughing, taking pictures, and sharing this moment with family was one of the highlights of 2015’s summer, and I’m sad to see it go. As things start to get frosted over and the temperatures drop in NY, at least I can think back to the good nights I spent in summer, loving the night.
I still love the night, mind you; I always have.
