not the quake of the moment... numbered 6.0, but the sound that scared me

August 26th, 2014, 12am

It was 16.7°C with few clouds. The wind was light.

I woke up at 3:32am— by little jolts, rumbling… it was hard to describe. It wasn’t your usual nauseous rolling type. Not even your 15 minute electric massage bed. Just a little shake, like mother nature gently warning me… hey, its for real… but not REAL! Oh no, those in Napa— got the real thing. What was more curious and more memorable— was the sound. THE SOUND… what are the typical sounds of an earthquake.. a 3.4 or 6.0? For me it was as if… a quick rain passed through our street— like hale. It left a scary silence. Sound. Am I waiting for the sounds that come during and after an earthquake?

I remember a thunder— BOOM! while working in Berkeley. I thought a truck had slammed into our loading dock(not unusual). But it was an earthquake— because then we felt a shaking, a rolling. What a difference. At night you were so considerate of our deep sleep. Quietly we asked: Did you feel that? … and then waited.

Somewhere in my mind. A snicker's bar wrapper, floating on a busy street on Market and 5th. A cloud floating at no speed... saying F__ You... I will take my time if it takes all day and night. A star in that massive galaxy you are gazing at... that just winked at you.
