The container ships fade in from the mist as they sail into Savannah, carrying the units of commerce.

May 23rd, 2014, 6pm

It was 30°C. The breeze was gentle.

They begin as a dot on the horizon, often framed by the piers marking the channel into the port of Savannah. As they resolve out of the horizon, you can begin to make out details: an island sticking out from stacked cargo containers, letters that are surely bigger than several men standing on each others shoulders. Then they make the turn to go parallel to the beach and you realize they are simply massive. The water strains to support the ship’s bulk as it steams its way into port. The sight is even more eerie at night, when you can see them anchored off shore, blinking behemoths waiting for their turn to disgorge goods the next morning.
