Mmmmm, duck. There is nothing like duck.
Noodles in Thailand are pretty delicious, but the most delicious one of all is really duck noodles. The savory duck broth with a hint of star anise is incomparable and unique. I found this bowl in a hole in the wall next to a mall in Bang Sue, the front opens right into the street and passing traffic. But, that’s part of the charm. Motorcyclists loiter around the front waiting for their noodles to go. Others climbed off the vehicles and put their helmets down for some fresh-off-the-pot duck noodle lunch.
The other part of the charm is that this bowl is simple yet perfect. The best things in life are simple. Perfectly cooked noodles are topped with tender duck meat covered with a bit of flavorful duck skin, along with savory fried pork wonton and a handful of herbs – cilantro, scallions, bean sprouts and the fragrant fried garlic.
That’s all there was in the bowl, and it was perfect.
