Brief Reviews: Super 8

January 23rd, 2014, 11am

It was 6.1°C with overcast. The breeze was light.

If you’ve considered seeing Super 8 (and you haven’t already, which you should have done), just go watch it already!

Super 8 is a feel-good family movie. Super 8 is a classic summer coming-of-age tale. Super 8 harkens back to the old-school alien horror flicks. It is, all around, an enjoyable experience… if you can get past JJ Abrams’ budding obsession with lens flares.

Super 8 was the unexpected summer hit that not enough people saw, so maybe you haven’t seen it yet. If not, wait until the next time you need a pick me up, and sit down to enjoy the rollercoaster of this movie. From the character development to the revelation of the monster, this movie has mass appeal and will make you feel better about… just… life, okay?

The child actors in this movie nail it, the adults form a strong compliment, and the message is one that we should be taking home from our theaters (instead of the get angry, blow shit up, and don’t face your emotions bullshit we’re force-fed): “Bad things happen. But you can still live.”

Anne Marie and Amal said thanks.
