Does a leader need to be a good manager..... A discussion

It was 27°C with broken clouds. The breeze was light.

Good leaders and good mangers are each vitally important to any system, organization, society as a whole. Both have management functions and jobs. Each help for the future to become reality. A leader , leads and drives the masses where as a manger drives and lead to mange situations, constrains and contribute a large part to the vision, mission and goal of their leader. Infact , leaders are broader perspectives of mangers and good visionary manger has all the capabilities and possibilities to be a good leader. However , good leader may not necessarily be good manger and a good manger need not be a good leader. Because managing and leading are two different functional activities of each character. The biggest differences is, in their importance of role and style of execution. Between a leader and manger for example - motivation, the way leader and a manger motivates the people who work or follow them and how they set example or a tone matters most. A good leader may have some inborn qualities like oratory prowess who draws the crowds and intoxicates by the jargon of words ,which a manger may lack. But on the contrary for a good manger imbibing administrative or management disciplines, taking spontaneous decisions at grass root level that is the practical approach to the system can be positive approach for good leadership where as a leader may not in some cases get this opportunity. In a nutshell , mangers respond to the strategy thinking by planning , controlling and executing the plan on the basis of the strategy to achieve vision, mission and goal of their leader. A leader is a core player, critical thinker, coach or mentor, strategist-planner, visionary, etc. Managing is one of the part of core function or responsibilities of a leader.
