Homesick at the top of the mountain

March 18th, 2014, 11pm

It was 21°C with few clouds. The breeze was gentle.

A friend and I took the bus up to Cerro San Cristobal this evening to see the city lit up at night. And for 5S, the traveller recommendations are right: it is quite a deal and quite a sight. It amazes me how this city stretches on forever, how neighbourhoods wind around the sporadic mountains peppered through the landscape. I couldn’t believe how insignificant I felt.

I also couldn’t believe how long we sat in traffic, car exhaust, and sound pollution on the way up to the summit. I like this city, but unfortunately, it’s done my head in, being here and dealing with these daily routine stressors. Ahh. Just a little homesick tonight, I must admit.

But don’t worry: I’m taking in as much as I can, enjoying many fresh papaya and chirimoya smoothies, and basking in this comfortable warmth, because damn it, I sure ain’t gonna take the awesome parts for granted while I’m still here.
