The Melbourne Town Hall is a handsome old building with an elegant, if not very comfortable, auditorium. My most memorable concert memory: Odetta in her last tour of Australia. It was somewhat controversial at the time. For some obscure reason, the Premier of Victoria and his wife, sitting in the front row, were offended by something she said . . . and walked out. As for me, I almost swooned with every note she sang, every word she flung at us.

It just occurred to me to Google this incident. So, in goes ‘Odetta, Melbourne, Felicity’. Up came one man’s, in my opinion, very faulty account of the event. I’m so shocked at this man casting outrageous aspersions, that I think in the next day or two, I’ll write up an entirely contrary version of this wonderful performance.
