This is a sheltered spot on Point Roadknight beach near Anglesea. It's about an hour and a half from Melbourne.

Melbourne, like most Australian cities, is on the coast. But unlike Sydney, Brisbane or Perth, we have mercurial, near-English weather, so it’s hard to pick a good beach day. We were lucky. The sun shone, the seagulls left us alone, the beach wasn’t too crowded. The water was too cold for me (I grew up in the northern part of Australia), but my Southern-born sons swam all morning.
