One more on the never-ending list of things I need to fix.

April 6th, 2014, 3pm

It was 13°C with broken clouds. The breeze was gentle.

Somehow, despite my best efforts to raise independent, self-reliant children, they have grown up to expect me to be able to fix every single thing that is capable of breaking down or going wrong around the house. I try to encourage them to think through what might have happened, to apply logic and reason to the question of what caused the television, or their DVD player, or the internet, or their bike to somehow not work in the way they need it to RIGHT NOW; but apparently that is too much mental effort — it’s far easier to shout for “Dad!” to come fix it, make it work again, even when the cause of the breakdown is in the lap of the gods.
