Day 1 on our Icelandic road trip.
I’m exhausted, sleep deprived, and I struggle to find the energy to write these words. I really wanted to write something up though, mostly because I feel like Iceland deserves the memory. Also because I’ve already been electrocuted today while taking a photo, and I didn’t want to forget to write about this moment later. Not that I ever would.
So far I’ve found a great cup of coffee, just in the outskirts of Reykjavik, topped up with some of the best milk I’ve ever had. But that wasn’t what kept me awake on the drive to Selfoss, oh no. These mountains. These mountains are so much better than caffeine. Think of them as fair trade scenery, roasted to perfection and freshly ground at perfect temperature for consumption by an untrained pair of eyes that’s in constant disbelief.
Looking out the window, a delicate darkness and a very silky silence are calling for me. I feel like a little kid again who just wants to play outside! But I’ll patiently play the waiting game: tomorrow will be an awesome day.
Hiking.
Autre part.
Some people say Iceland looks 'otherworldly'. I have no idea what they're talking about...
This is a United States Navy Dakota which crashed on the black sands of Iceland in 1973. It's a very surreal sight.
