Obviously I know, but what fascinates me is how this human dance could be a response to almost any event - good or bad - the camera phones, the monopods and selfie sticks, press photographing the press.
And about how watching the event through our device screens we miss things like the boats lying across the water, or the two people in the middle, maybe individuals, maybe friends caught up in the smoke or another story entirely.
This picture is of a celebration, not a horror, a climax not an aftermath. In the street below the flat, outside the photo, drummers drum, lions dance and reach for cabbages hung in the doorways of Chinese shops and old men set long red strings of firecrackers dancing. It was only because their smoke obscured everything for a while that I looked round and saw this first group of survivors/sightseers emerging.
