Inspired by the promise of spring, and the need to work off a huge dinner, I went for a short hike in Kickapoo State Park in southern Illinois. It’s still a little early in the year. The trees are dormant, the paths are muddy, and a thin layer of ice still covers most of the lakes. I did find one small gem though. Someone had designed and fitted a small door to a hollow in a tree. Inside was a small stuffed rabbit. Old and moldy it looked at me as if I’d just interrupted its tea party. I quietly shut the door and left him in peace.
