Today I went with a FREE Sandeman walking tour around the old town and sites to behold. It went for about 5 hours and my walking host Martin added a lot of richness of history and wit to enhance the experience at looking at old lifeless architecture and structures. I had the pleasure of meeting a young girl by the name of April (a melbournien based out of london travelling alone) after I noticed that she was travelling solo and always ahead of the tour group. I mustered my courage and asked to join her at our lunch destination and the conversation was pleasurable and insightful. I think my balls grew a bit bigger today. Back in melbourne I would never approach a girl first. On another note, i spent the second half of the day funny enough, on another walking tour. I enjoyed the free tour so much that I paid for the 2nd one. A tour around the castle complex and the other side of the old town and the charles bridge. It was an enjoyable day. I came home absolutely wrecked and while reading online discovered the tragic news that my grandmother (who I had never met) had died. I had plans to see her and my paternal grandfather this upcoming saturday in Hannover, Germany. Even though i’m not grieving suddenly I’m awashed with mixed emotions. Of the timing of my visit to meet extended family who are all but strangers to me and to meet my grandfather for the first time - to whom would be grieving and perhaps not able to extend any affection for a grandson he’s never met. After liaising with my uncle in Berlin it was decided that I would not rush down to Hannover from Prague but stay the course and travel to Berlin. But as my uncle is currently helping with family matters that I would stay in a hostel or hotel until friday. I guess on the flip side I was mentally prepared to wing this trip. But now I carry a strange emotional baggage which I don’t know how to look at or handle. Tomorrow (well…today as I write these blogs in retrospect) I’m heading out of Prague to visit Kutna Hora.
5.5 - Chance meeting airbnb neighbour from The Netherlands which proceeded with a sharing of a beer/conversation and cultural exchange.
5. Kutná Hora, a town known mostly for the Bone Cathedral and playing second fiddle a double story baroque church
Parks and people.
