Imperial White on Hakea

September 22nd, 2005, 12pm

Our most colorful butterfly in the Otway Ranges pictured on a Hakea shrub in the nearby National Park. I see it every spring but haven’t had a camera at hand since 2005. It is a member of the ‘White’ family, a name that simply wouldn’t do without the addition of some grander apellation. In this case, I think ‘Imperial’ does the job nicely. Since they tend to be high canopy flyers, I try to take binoculars when they’re around. This one was at eye level and uncharacteristically waited around while I was adjusting my lens.
