When you walk the rim, you can look down on other mortals. Not like in a plane, but in a hot air balloon, perhaps. In any case, it was very early in the evolution of man-made flight.

The sun had everybody confused. While we walked the rim, many flowers yielded to temptation. They opened up in misguided optimism. We took their photographs for the obituary pages.

The rim is very popular with lichen. It was thriving everywhere, in unusually gaudy colors, projecting an aura of cool perseverance nonetheless. The lichen is confident it will survive flowers & people.

Later, it still didn’t snow.

Adrian, Philippe, David Wade and Cassie said thanks.
