I pass this spot often each month.
Nearly every time, my photographers eye sees the hints and promise of a great photograph, but my camera has refused to capture it. I’ve been here in all seasons, in many lights and times of day. (I always carry a good camera in my pocket.) Many times I’ve interrupted my schedule. Walking around and wandered about looking for the angle, the framing, the play of light, a transient feature, the sudden inspiration. The evening twilight nearly always seduces me to linger with my finger on the shutter. I’ve taken some good pictures in this spot, but never what my photographer’s eye claims to see.
Having such an elusory subject in your neighborhood gives opportunity for return, study, return and retries.
I have four basic iterations in the photographs I captured of this spot over the months. Perhaps when I find the fifth I’ll find success?
Returning from a movie, after I wrote the above, I captured a fifth photograph in ‘the spot’. I like it, but it lacks the wistfulness and sense of yearning I want.
