Writing...z-z-z-z

June 23rd, 2014, 8pm

It was 21.1°C with few clouds. The breeze was gentle.

This moment begins the end of a fabulous day. Only three hours ago, the sun danced in silver prisms over ocean crests that peaked just as we approached. Saltwater cooled my legs and speckled the sunglasses clinging to my nose, but I didn’t mind. It was rather hot outside so the coolness that followed wind blowing against my wet skin brought welcome relief. I was happy to spend another day cruising just outside of the harbor perimeter. The SeaDoo seemed more than willing to take the next crest with just a little air. It was a perfect afternoon on the Pacific Ocean.

Now, as the sun sets, I find myself curled up on the leather sofa with a chenille blanket and my laptop. Inside my head, ideas beg to be let out and take their place on the page but my body will not cooperate. “I’m too tired right now,” it seems to reply and my eyes confirm the truth of it by closing one more time.

I suppose, writing will have to take a back-seat to a summer’s mid-evening nap just this once. The screenplay awaits with Patrick stuck in his room waiting to find out what happens next. Pirates are mid-plunder in the Caribbean and Kathryn still battles the ER in novels still taking shape - but they will all have to wait while I snooze for just this one moment.

What a relief to know that I can press the “pause” button of my livelihood and come back to the very place where it left of…pick back up and write again.

Such is the opportunity of an exhausted writer.

Christine and David Wade said thanks.
