Airport terminals can be beautiful, peaceful, places.

September 11th, 2013, 6pm

It was 33.9°C with broken clouds. There was moderate breeze.

Many people think that airline lounges are the brass ring of airport living, and sometimes they are right. Thai’s Royal First Lounge in Bangkok, Singapore’s Private Room, and for many the ultimate Luthansa First Class Terminal in Frankfurt.

But sometimes they have no idea how good it is they are missing the ‘experience’.

United’s lounge in Newark is good for one thing—free plonk. Too bad you will have to sit on the floor to drink it. Packed to the gills, dirty, noisy: that is the United Club.

I left it as soon as I arrived, and found this quiet spot in the terminal. Outside of no free plonk, I can’t think of a better place to quietly watch the world go by.
