Thermal Dump (Russell Square)

May 2nd, 2014, 11am

It was 11°C with broken clouds. The breeze was gentle.

The GPO’s rocket barges and underground canal network are normally kept in perfect thermal equipoise. The energy expended in firing mail across London is normally recirculated to heat government buildings but in some places on the network, and more often so in the summer, the system needs a way to dump extra therms. ‘Fountains’ such as this one in Russell Square are the solution.
