The Hotel Russell, built in 1898, featured in one of my moments a week or so ago.
I’m revisiting it here, as I wanted to couple it with a postcard in my possession which was sent by a guest who stayed at the hotel 107 years ago, just 9 years after it had opened.
I love being able to connect different points in time in concrete ways like this.
When I have more time I’ll add a transcript of the greeting on this postcard to this moment, although if anyone else would like to have a go, I’ve included a larger image at the bottom of this page.
One thing that is pretty cool is that there is still a 10 School Street, Dorchester [Boston], Massachusetts, USA, although looking on Google street view, the house there now looks like it’s a recent replacement for the house where Mr H C Grant lived all those years ago!
Perhaps if anyone reading this knows a friend in Boston, they could ask them to look into the history of that Street for me? Would there be a record of Mr Grant and for how long he was a resident at number 10?
