Gender Bias Against Men

October 7th, 2015, 12am

It was 28°C with few clouds. There was moderate breeze.

That’s what I am doing for a presentation of mine. What a disappointment for me, though, when I find the internet littered with women empowerment articles, while there being hardly nothing for understanding men! Now, let me get this very clear. I am a feminist. And, that’s why I believe in gender equality. I still advocate for women’s rights, but also know that men don’t have it easy, and their rights are an issue too.

Thus, I decided to go ahead with this topic for a graded assignment. Its one of the most difficult tasks I have set for myself. Because, there is nothing on the internet that can support my claims; there is nothing anywhere that I can use to my advantage.

And, this got me thinking. Women’s rights is a huge thing, why isn’t men’s equality? We don’t want a role reversal, we want equality! So, that means a woman gets an equal pay rise, and a man cries openly when his girlfriend leaves him. Is that a really hard to achieve?

Turns out it is, because of all those gender roles society has made. But, shouldn’t it be easy to break them in the 21st century? Not that easy, I suppose. Some people term that as loss of culture and heritage, which is blasphemy, I tell you, because we are getting rid of something negative about the “culture and heritage”. We are trying to make it a better world to live in for everyone.

Makes sense to uphold women’s rights, eh? But, what about men? They face difficulties in daily life too. They have so many responsibilities upon themselves and have to comply to the gender roles set by society. And, they don’t have anyone to fight for them. And, if they try fighting for themselves, we push them down taking feminism as an excuse.

Well, guess what? Stereotypical male gender roles is an issue plaguing society today. An issue that needs to be addressed. And, there are going to be a hell lot of problems with the world in the future. So, why not sort it out now, when we have the time?
