Though Saskatoon has two small opera companies, they do pretty pedestrian repertoire. So once or twice a year I attend the Met Opera’s live broadcasts from NYC to the movie theatre. I am often the youngest person in the audience which is both odd and sad to me because I am not really very young and the operas are of great calibre.
Today a friend and I saw Shostakovich’s “The Nose” (based on the Gogol short story) with stage design and direction by William Kentridge. Fabulous singers, a very interesting score, and the set and direction were absolutely stunning.
Afterwards we walked down to The Woods restaurant and alehouse where my tea was served with a very Russian teacup. The perfect touch to end a lovely outing.
