This is an old, gnarled tree overlooking Crater Lake. It was our last night shooting session and we were racing against the sunrise.

This area was pitch black and three of us (myself, Dave Morrow and Greg Annandale) ended up gingerly shuffling out onto this thin slope, unsure of what was on either side. Once the sun rose, we could see it was a big drop into the lake. Sadly this didn’t give us much room to manoeuvre, but we did our best!

I managed to capture two satellites on their way past, plus, if you look towards the centre of the image, you can see the spiral galaxy that is Andromeda.

In case you didn’t realise, that massive strip on the right of the frame is our very own spiral galaxy, The Milky Way.
